LGBTQ+

HumanitiesAR works to promote understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultural heritage of the state of Arkansas, including the LGBTQ+ community. We launch programming initiatives focused on educating and informing about the history and culture of the LGBTQ+ community at a state and national level. Through these efforts, we aim to create a deeper understanding and appreciation for the LGBTQ+ community and its place in Arkansas’s cultural heritage.

Reflective Images: A Kaleidoscope of Change and Impact on the LGBTQ+ Community

We recently launched a programming initiative focused on the LGBTQ+ community called Reflective Images. This multi-faceted program will provide education and understanding of the history and culture of the LGBTQ+ community at both the state and national levels. The program includes a variety of components such as:

  • a lecture series
  • panel discussions
  • vignettes of stories
  • scholarly articles
  • an anthology that will compile all of the material created for Reflective Images

The program will cover civil rights, intersectionality within LGBTQ+, and cultural history. All activities will emphasize information and education to create experiences that provide knowledge and encourage understanding.

This project was funded by the Arkansas Community Foundation, supported through grants from the Alice L. Walton Foundation, Olivia and Tom Walton through the Walton Family Foundation, and additional funds from the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation.
