Krista Cotton

Krista Cotton is a middle school teacher at Star City Middle School, in Star City, AR. She is entering her eighth year there, where she has taught Ancient History, World History / Geography, and will be transitioning into English Language Arts this school year. Krista holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Middle Level Education (4-8) from the University of Arkansas at Monticello; Masters in Educational Theories and Practices, and Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership, both from Arkansas State University “A-State” in Jonesboro.

Mrs. Cotton aspires to be an Educational and Community Leader that encourages and promotes cultural awareness and acceptance, while educating about historical backgrounds and limitless futures. Krista comes from a heritage of predominantly lower-socioeconomic status, with generational poverty leading to blue-collar careers and young childbearing. Krista was the first high school graduate in her family to attend college, later obtaining three advanced degrees and excelling in her teaching career. When asked why she loved teaching, Mrs. Cotton stated, “I enjoy teaching students about the world outside of our small town. (Star City School District Facebook Post, November 2, 2021)”
