HumantiesAR History Institute Applications Open
January 22 @ 12:00 am - February 21 @ 11:30 pm CST
We are excited to accept applications for this year’s HumanitiesAR History Teacher Institute. Our theme is “Untold Stories of Western Arkansas,” and we’ll explore that during a four-day residential, immersive history institute from June 11 to June 14.
If you’re a K-12 teacher or media specialist from across the state looking for an engrossing exploration of the western Arkansas region, you can apply to be one of this year’s 20 participants.
What you’ll get to do
As a participant, you’ll attend site-specific Arkansas history sessions; participate in hands-on activities; learn about classroom resources; and visit historic sites, museums, and archives across the western region of Arkansas. Some site visits will include Fort Chaffee, the Drennan-Scott Museum, the U.S. Marshals Museum, the Cherokee National History Museum, and the Cherokee National Research Centers, both in Tahlequah, OK.
The Institute will feature close interaction with scholars, examination of primary sources, and development of engaging assignments and activities. You’ll also receive books and other instructional materials, including primary source materials/resources for classroom use.
Where the institute will meet
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will host this year’s institute. The institute is a residential experience with room and board included.
